 Ray is the founder and managing principal of Second Act Capital Partners, an advisory firm that provides balance sheet and FinTech implementation consulting to financial institutions, as well as ratings, advisory, capital investing and business development services to FinTech and other companies seeking to partner with financial institutions.  Ray also serves as a member of the board of directors of Kearny Bank and Kearny Financial Corp., a publicly-traded $4+ billion banking company in Fairfield NJ.


Ray has been involved in the banking industry since 1986.  Ray co-founded Second Act Capital Partners in 2015 after retiring from Sandler O’Neill & Partners in 2014, where he had served as a partner and Chief Balance Sheet Strategist since 2007.  Prior to joining Sandler O’Neill, Ray was head of Bank Strategy for JPMorgan Securities, Lehman Brothers, and First Union Capital Markets.  Ray also spent five years as a bank strategist and advances specialist at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, and five years as asset/liability analyst, financial analyst and computer programmer for a community bank in the Boston area.

Kate is a recent college grad and the newest addition to the Second Act Capital team. She went to Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, where she earned two degrees. She has a Business Administration degree, with a concentration in Finance and Economics as well as a Political Science degree, where she focused on political economy. During her time at Merrimack she served as the Vice President of the Merrimack Financial Group and participated in multiple finance focused activities including stock pitches and portfolio management competitions. She joined our team as an Associate focusing on the research and modelling behind our bank and financial technology collaborations. Kate is also responsible for creating content and updating all client facing materials.

Joel Katz has worked in a variety of capacities focusing on banks and depositories.  Before joining Second Act Capital Partners in 2016, he served in fixed income sales roles at Janney Montgomery Scott and Cantor Fitzgerald.  In 2011, he joined Keefe, Bruyette & Woods as Managing Director overseeing the firm's performing loan sales and mortgage securitization practices related to its banking clients.  From 1998 to 2011, Mr. Katz was a Managing Director at Sandler O’Neill and Partners where he was responsible for whole loan sales and securitization transactions involving performing, subperforming and nonperforming residential, commercial, consumer, and business loans.  He also advised bank clients on capital markets strategies concerning liquidity, compliance and regulatory issues, and asset valuation.   Previously, he was an investment banker in St. Petersburg, FL with William R. Hough & Company where he securitized home equity  loans for bank clients.  Mr. Katz also structured new issue REMICs at Raymond James and Associates where he was a member of the company’s Derivatives Group.  From 1983 to 1993, Mr. Katz worked for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac included Structured Finance and Mortgage Accounting.  Mr. Katz is currently an adjunct Finance professor at the County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey.  He holds a B. S. degree in Marketing and an MBA from Virginia Tech.

Kamila graduated from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey in May 2016 where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with a minor in Economics. At Drew, she participated in the Wall Street Semester, a highly competitive off-campus program in New York City where she met with professionals across all aspects of the financial markets to gain quantitative skills. She joined Second Act in May as an associate where she builds financials models that are core to FinTech strategies and presentations.
